History

History

From 1958 to 2000

IBB (Internationale Betriebs Beratung) was founded in Vienna, Austria, in 1958 as a joint venture of two established consulting firms in Paris and Karlsruhe, Germany. It was a period of economic growth in central Europe; a time in which a small group of pioneer entrepreneurs led by Willi Dannenmaier began providing consulting services for industrial companies based in Austria and Germany.
The first mandates ranged from strategic and market planning to production and logistics reengineering, for clients in industrial production companies as well as retail. Within a few years, IBB had established itself as a European player, serving clients around the continent.

In the 1960s IBB continued growing rapidly and ventured into the development of electronic production planning and control systems in cooperation with IBM in 1963. In 1968, IBB opened an office in Munich and founded the affiliate company IBB Informationsverarbeitung (IBB IV) in Vienna, to cover IT-related activities.
IBB continued developing new areas of functional expertise and established itself an industry leader in core activities such as retail-business consulting. After a management buy-out in 1973, new offices were opened in Karlsruhe, Germany (1978) and Cologne (1986). In the 1980s, IBB also continued expanding its IT-related business in Germany and further developed its HR expertise.

After a company split, IBB refocused its activities in Germany to the Munich office while continuing its growth in consulting services for strategic alliances and public sector.

From 2000 on…

In 2003 IBB launched the brand ifss and established an increased focus on process excellence, mainly Lean and Six Sigma. At this point, IBB and ifss began coexisting as separate brands. Sales offices were subsequently opened in Barcelona (2006) and Zagreb (2009). With strategic partners, ifss further expanded operations into the USA and Asia, servicing clients globally in more than 35 countries using 18 different languages.

In 2015 IBB has gone on to become a Holding under the name of IBB Internationale Management Holding GmbH with investments in divers consulting brands & companies.

In 2020 the ifss GmbH consolidated some of its brands under one legal entity, re-focused its service offerings to Business Excellence and continues to grow a separate, specialized Life Science Practice.

Beyond Business

Beyond Business

Going beyond business

At ifss we are committed to making a contribution to the community and to society. We organize and participate in yearly charitable events, and sometimes complete consulting projects and trainings on a pro bono basis.

This space is dedicated to news and information related to CSR (corporate social responsibilty) activities and other initatives.

Charitable donation 2019

Child protection has a name in Austria: Die Möwe

The multifaceted work of this organisation is partly publically funded, for this reason private sponsors and companies ensure one third of the annual budget. We are happy that ifss contributes 3.000 Euros this year. We are proud that our relationship has been ongoing for 6 years.

Pro Bono Work for Tearfund 2019

„What we hope ever to do with ease, we must learn first to do with diligence“ (Samuel Johnson 1709-1784) …ifss supports Tearfund in reaching this ease when it comes to process improvement. Another week of pro bono teaching efforts took place. It focused on the process related to Tearfund´s digital presence and again the process of gathering and centralising of success stories from the field. The classic tools: SIPOC, Apollo Root Cause Analysis, Future Reality Tree and PDCA were applied.

Pro Bono Work for Tearfund 2018

Tearfund is a Christian charity established in 1968 who helps communities overcome the worst effects of poverty and disasters. Tearfund works alongside local churches and other locally-based organisations in over 50 countries to help people realise their plans for a better future. One of our colleagues spend one week in the UK working with a local team on the improvement of 2 selected processes : The process of gathering and centralising of success stories from the field and the recruitment process.

The aim was to train the group in a hybrid method for data-poor environments which combines the Toyota Kata thinking with the Logical Thinking Process. The point is to be as rigorous and disciplined as possible, but to not hamper the improvement by having to collect data first. The Tearfund teams have successfully applied the method in a short period of time to define a number of practical improvements that will have a decisive impact on the quality of their processes.

ifss Charity Event 2018

On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of our founding company IBB (Internationale Betriebs Beratungs GmbH), the ifss familiy spent the annual off-site meeting at a very special location: Jesolo/Italy. After half a day of agile work, the group enjoyed the lovely beach environment for doing sports together. Not only was this a lot of fun, it was also to contribute to something greater. Everybody participated in the beach disciplines of boccia, beach volleyball and stand-up paddling in order to score as many points as possible. These points were then converted into Euros, resulting in a donation of €3.870 for „Die Möwe“, an organisation which helps children who are victims of violence.

Pro Bono Work for Medair 2017

Medair is a humanitarian organization inspired by Christian faith to relieve human suffering in some of the world’s most remote and devastated places. One of our colleagues spent one week with Medair in Jordan on a pro bono project with the aim to improve the inventory and stock process of medications at a local site. The project focus was to improve the accuracy and timeliness of the processes. After project closure, we remained in touch. Half a year later, ifss was happy to learn that the improvements were continued and hope these will be maintained in the future.

ifss Charity Event 2017

We did it again: Doing sports together, having a good time and contributing to something greater by producing „points“ and „homeruns“ at the grounds of the Viennese Baseball Club Homerunners. Lovely autum weather and highly motivated players resulted in a team effort of 161 points which got “converted” into a 3.220 Euro donation. The beneficiary is again ”Die Möwe“. This organisation helps children who are victims of violence. For more information please visit MÖWE

ifss Charity Event 2016

This year´s team event took place at the grounds of the Viennese Baseball Club Homerunners. Pro Bono Work for World Vision 2015 /2016

Pulling up the roots of poverty and planting the seeds of change is what the NGO World Vision constantly works on. In 2016, one of our colleagues spent a pro bono week in Kinshasa/Congo to deliver Lean for a World Vision group of 40 persons. The focus of the improvement was around the child sponsorship process which ensured that the sponsors continuously received feedback with information and pictures of the child they were financially supporting. This type of feedback keeps everybody engaged and ensures that the sponsor can see the effect of the donated money.

During the previous year, another pro bono week resulted in a Lean training for 40 participants in Dakar /Senegal which focused on the improvement of the ordering process for aid goods.
In pro bono projects, ifss provides resources and knowledge free of charge. The employees who want to contribute on a voluntary basis get additional holidays granted.

ifss Charity Triathlon 2015

We did it again: A charity triathlon! Doing sports together, having a good time and getting to know your colleagues better  was the motivation  for this year´s team event which took place in Bad Aussee. Another motivation was  contributing to something greater by  producing an incredible number of joint triathlon kilometers  which got „translated“ into a 4113 Euro donation. The beneficiary is for the second time „Die Möwe“. This organisation  helps children who are victims of domestic violence. With the raised amount of money one child can receive therapy treatments for approx. 2 years.
